The days of a simple muffler and pipe repair to keep your engine running quietly are long gone. Today's vehicle exhaust systems employ a complex system of parts, to not only keep your engine running quietly, but also to reduce the amount of harmful gases that enter the environment.

The components of the modern system include, the catalytic converter, muffler, pipes, oxygen sensor, wiring, and the vehicle's on-board computer. The oxygen sensor sends a reading of the levels of gases back to the computer, and the computer maintains the appropriate air/fuel mixture to keep the engine running at optimal levels for both performance and pollution control. The catalytic converter converts the harmful gases of carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide and water. Today's vehicle's run extremely clean and with proper maintenance they can stay way for the life of the vehicle.

How Often Should I have my Exhaust & Emission Serviced?

• The good news is that today's exhaust systems last longer and do not need a lot of attention. However, it's always a good idea to have a qualified, certified technician look over the exhaust system during every routine oil change
• The Oxygen Sensor should be replaced per you vehicle's recommended maintenance schedule. On most vehicles this is typically between 30,000 and 90,000 miles
• The emissions will also be checked during you annual state inspection
• If the Service Engine light or Check Engine light comes on, make an appointment with us as soon as possible
